PT Cruiser Network

PT Cruiser Network

I have been researching online... So far I am finding a $100 solution to accomplish what I am trying to do... but I want to see if any other PT driver has a trick/advice.

My PT is an 04 with factory satellite radio (sirius)
ALSO it has a 6 cd changer... which I am assume is in the head unit itself since it is big and bulky.

I took my dash off today and looked... I see the big white 22 pin I am assuming... and a gray one next to it (assuming that is my cd changer) and this black cord connected on the right of the unit (it wouldn't come off.. maybe I didn't try hard enough I assume that is the satellite.?

I want to be able to keep my 6 cd changer, satellite radio, and be able to hook up my future iPod...

NO i do not have a tape deck...
and I had used fm transmitters before and they suck in my honest opinion...

So I am trying to find a more permanent way to do this... then I saw one person had solder there head unit to make an aux port... yeah I don't want to do that.

So has anyone else had this issue and found a solution...

I'm not sure if it would be easier to buy a new head unit or what... I mean for $100 I should just get a new head unit, but then I don't know if I'll lose my 6 cd changer... and satellite... I mean really I can only listen to 1 cd at a time, but I like being lazy and not switching them out. Ha.

Then I read somewhere with the satellite radio they sometimes have a way to unplug and connect an iPod near the roof mounted piece... Anyone know if it is possible to unplug the satellite in the back of the PT and then use my iPod?  ( i haven't checked because it is dark right now)

Thanks...

I have an Alpine head unit in my 02 Cruiser. It has Sirius and Ipod with a single disc player in the unit. If you're using your Ipod, you prolly won't need the 6 disc changer anymore, so you might want to upgrade the head unit.
I also had an Alpine Head unit in my Dodge Dakota before a Mercedes decided it had a problem with where I was parked in my driveway at 2 in the morning. That one didn't have the CD player in it, but was Sirius and Ipod.

No, the connections are totally different on the Sirius Unit and the Ipod connector so you can't unplug one and plug the other in.

This is the newer version of what I had in my Dakota

They don't sell one now that still has the CD player built in.

Good luck with your upgrade.
Thanks for the info... But now I got the droid... so I'm not going to get the iPod any time soon... I figure if my Sirius on 6cd ever stops working I will deal with it then! Hell even the lil Yaris has an aux port in the middle console of the dash... I don't see why I can't just do something like that... Even the CRV has an aux in the middle arm rest thing... Oh well. When the time comes I will figure it out...

Right now I just miss my precious... it's getting fixed today. Yaris just isn't the same as a PT... especially when it comes to cup holders...

There is a little known fact about Chrysler's  Stereo system. They are made by Infinity Audio so the quality is there to begin with. When I wanted to improve the stereo I installed a Mopar Subwoofer and installed a set of Dual Audio 6 inch door speakers that have mini subwoofers built in.The subwoofer has a 80 watt amp built in and the improvement is noticeable,You may be better off to just replace the headunit......Mike

I had an 04 one time with the 6 cd changer. It is part of the head unit. I had to change to an earlier head unit that had a "mode" button in the lower right corner. Then I bought a PIE adapter and it plugged in between the head and the wiring harness. This gave me a plug in for a satellite or for the I pod.

Hey ashley, They make a rf modulator, which is different than a rf transmitter in the fact they plug inline with your antenna plug instead recieving the signal through the airwaves. You tune your stereo to whatever frequency your modulator is set to. Havent tried it with a ipod ,but I have ran a mobile dvd player through it.The movies sounded great. You also have to add a switch to turn it on and off. Hope this helps.

I removed the factory unit in my 05' and installed a Sony DSX200 "digital media" head unit.

All it plays is digital music either through an ipod that sits in a compartment behind the drop down faceplate,

or a flashdrive you plug in the front of the unit. Thats what I'm doing now. No fiddling with CD's or any of that.

I have an 8gb flashdrive that will hold every song I own, and it's at my fingertips in the car all the time.

It even has a wireless remote. The unit is awesome, I love it.
